Understanding the Latest CBD Policy Changes

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. It is one of the two main active ingredients, the other being tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the compound that produces the “high” associated with marijuana use, while CBD does not have the same psychoactive effects.

What are the latest policy changes?

In December 2018, the United States government passed the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, also known as the Farm Bill. This bill declassified hemp as a Schedule I drug, making it legal to produce hemp and hemp-derived products, including CBD, on a federal level.

This means that CBD products that are derived from hemp, rather than marijuana, are now legal across the United States, as long as they contain less than 0.3% THC.

However, it is important to note that individual states still have the right to create their own laws and regulations surrounding CBD. Some states have already banned the sale of CBD-infused food and beverages, while others have only allowed it in licensed dispensaries.

What are the benefits of CBD?

CBD has been touted as a natural remedy for a variety of ailments, including anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and epilepsy. It is often used as an alternative to prescription medications, as it is believed to have minimal side effects.

Research on the effects of CBD is still ongoing, but early studies have shown promising results. Some CBD products have even been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of certain medical conditions.

How do I know if a CBD product is legal?

It is important to check the label of any CBD product before purchasing to ensure that it is derived from hemp and contains less than 0.3% THC. It is also important to research the laws in your individual state to ensure that the purchase or use of CBD is legal.
